Use Google’s Storage page
- Open Drive storage (or the Storage item in the left nav).
- Review Drive vs Gmail vs Photos if you are on a consumer account: they share one quota.
- Sort or filter large items Google lists there, then trash or move what you do not need.
This is the fastest way to knock out obvious space hogs. It does not show a folder tree with sizes on every branch.
Search operators
In Drive search you can try queries such as:
- type:video: video files
- type:archive or look for zip/rar by name
There is no reliable “larger than 100 MB” operator that works the same for every account. Storage view plus type filters get you most of the way.
When you need folder sizes
“Which project folder ate 12 GB?” is a different question. Native Drive does not put a size on every folder in a tree. Drive Organizer Pro’s health scan walks My Drive in your browser and lists largest files, largest folders, empty folders, and a mix by type. Preview is free; trashing empty folders is Pro.
Scans run in your tab and are not uploaded to our servers. Very large Drives take longer and may stop at a file cap so the tab stays usable. You can still use Google’s Storage page for the biggest files.
After you find them
- Trash if you truly do not need the file (empty Trash to free quota).
- Move archives to a cold folder or another account if you must keep them.
- Check duplicates: two copies of the same video count twice.
