How to find empty folders in Google Drive™

Drive has no empty-folders filter. After a cleanup you are left with shells named New folder, Copy of, and last year’s project. List them, check them, then delete empty folders you do not need.

The problem

Why empty folders matter

Empty folders do not fill storage. They hide real files in the tree and make it harder to organize Google Drive. Finding them is a cleanup step, not a storage trick. For space, start with how to clean up Google Drive and sort by file size.

How to find empty folders

Four steps in Drive health

1

Open Drive health

Go to driveorganizerpro.com/app, sign in, load My Drive or a folder, then open Drive Health. Scan this folder or all of My Drive.

2

Open the empty folders list

After the scan, open the empty folders tab. That is how to find empty folders in Google Drive without expanding every branch by hand.

3

Check before you trash

Some empty folders are placeholders you still want (a client tree you imported, a class folder for next term). Click through any name you do not recognize. Preview is free.

4

Delete empty folders you do not need

Pro can move empty folders to Drive Trash in bulk. They stay recoverable until you empty Trash in Google Drive. Free users can still see the list.

Native Drive

What Drive search cannot do

Search will not return folders with zero files. You would have to open each parent. A health scan walks the tree in your browser. The file list is not uploaded to our servers.
